Chelsea is Prem's 'worst team of 2023' — explained

The Telegraph claim that Chelsea are 'the worst Premier League team' in 2023.

The paper looks at the number of points collected throughout the calendar year by all teams that have spent it in the competition. So teams relegated last season (Leicester, Leeds, Southampton) and promoted this term (Luton, Burnley, Sheffield United) are not counted.

Among the 17 remaining games, Chelsea have the lowest number of points — 39 from 39 games. Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are also on the same number of points but have played a game less.

Man City is the best team in 2023, with 86 points, followed by Aston Villa (78), Arsenal (77) and Liverpool (76).

While these positions are purely theoretical, it shows how horrible the year has been for the Blues. Chelsea finished 12th in the table last season and are in the same position in the standings right now.
